As the Iowa City Math Tournament date draws closer, we wanted to share a few important updates about the event. We will no longer be proctoring the exam over Zoom; instead, participants will have a 7-hour window to time themselves taking the competition and to submit their answers. Here is the updated schedule for the day:
- 8 AM – 3 PM: Open competition period
- 3 – 4 PM: Zoom meeting to discuss answers
- 4 – 5 PM: Kahoot! round and award ceremony
We will email the test files to participants at 8 AM on Sunday, and participants will submit their answers to a Google Form that will be released on test day. The tournament will NOT be proctored—we expect participants to not cheat (e.g. taking the test for more than the allotted time and using unauthorized aids such as other people, calculators, and the Internet). Scratch paper and writing utensils are the only aids allowed—calculators are not allowed.
We are also cancelling the regularly scheduled Math Circle meeting on Saturday, August 8th, and we encourage all Summer Math Circle students to participate in the tournament instead. If you have not yet registered, please fill out this form so we can send you the appropriate testing materials and instructions. More information will be available in the coming weeks.
As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or feedback!
